On Thursday 29th December we launched our first “Walk With Us” event, a free guided walk looking to encourage people of all abilities to explore the outdoors. We had chosen a circular walk from Castleton, which took in Mam Tor, Hollins Cross, Lose Hill and Peakshole Water. A popular ridge walk in the Peak District offering spectacular views across the valley.
The forecast for the day was heavy fog and mist, not what you want for a walk with great views. Nevertheless, we took our chances and as it turned out we couldn’t have asked for better weather. An early morning frost had left the ground crispy white but the sun was thawing everything nicely. Still, a few spots held hidden dangers and a few slips, trips and falls occurred through the day, none serious though and easily shaken off with a laugh!
After 7.5 miles, when the legs were tiring, we arrived back in Castleton and stopped at the Castle Inn for some well deserved drinks, the mulled wine was a particular winner, as the sun was going down and the chill setting back in.
It was great to see the smiles on everyone’s faces on completion of the walk and the enjoyment from all throughout the day was a testament to a successful walk.
We would like to thank everyone that turned up and hope they had as much fun as we did. We hope to see many more of you on our next adventure! Follow the blog to keep up to date!
Happy New Year!!
